WWE Confirms Cody Rhodes Has Suffered A Torn Pectoral Tendon, Still Set For WWE Hell In A Cell

Cody Rhodes is reportedly banged up heading into WWE Hell in a Cell.

“The American Event” was set to compete against Seth Rollins at a live event in  in Champaign, Illinois, on June 4. But at the show, the company announced that Rhodes was injured, so Rollins wound up facing Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn instead. “The American Nightmare” still appeared, but he didn’t wrestle.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Rhodes suffered a legitimate injury while he was weight training this past week. Meltzer stated that it’s believed that Rhodes is dealing with a torn pec, but that has not confirmed. He also stated that “the presumption” is that Rhodes will still compete at WWE Hell in a Cell as scheduled; he’s set to face Rollins in a Hell in a Cell Match.

Rhodes tweeted an image of the chairs (with his face on them) at the Allstate Arena, the venue of the show, on June 5.

Update: on the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show, WWE confirmed that Rhodes has suffered a torn right pectoral muscle. The company stated that the injury happened during Rhodes’ brawl with Rollins on the May 30 episode of RAW, and he exacerbated it when he was weight training. In the announcement, WWE wrote that Rhodes vowed to compete in the Hell in a Cell Match against Rollins.

WWE subsequently posted the following announcement on its official website:

Rumors have circulated that Cody Rhodes suffered an injury this weekend after an attack at the hands of Seth “Freakin” Rollins. However, as announced on the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show this is not the case.

What is accurate is Rhodes suffered a partially torn right pectoral tendon during a brawl with Rollins this past Monday on RAW. Rhodes kept this very quiet but on Friday, while weight training in preparation for his match, the tendon tore completely off the bone.

Nonetheless, being the man and the competitor that he is, Rhodes has vowed to still face Rollins inside Hell in a Cell tonight.

There is no doubt Rollins must be salivating to get his hands on a wounded Rhodes tonight.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
