Ric Flair Was Offered A ‘James Bond Type’ Movie Role In The 1980s

Ric Flair‘s professional wrestling career in the 1980s might have looked very different had he accepted the offer to star in a movie.

“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair recently sat down with WrestleZone to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if he ever missed out on any big side opportunities while being a professional wrestler, Flair recalled a time in the 1980s when he was offered a “James Bond-type” role from Orion Pictures.

“For me personally, you remember Orion Pictures?” Ric Flair asked. “Years ago, right, so the guy from Orion came to see me. We just started wrestling in LA in the 80s with the WCW NWA Crockett right, and they had a role for me in a movie like a James Bond type role. Which in my mind, back then, I was living like that anyway. [laughs] And the owner [would’ve] paid me $500,000, and you know that would have had to lose the world title and go away [to film].

“And then — I realized after just making a commercial yesterday that took almost 10 hours to shoot just a commercial. I think I always thought that I missed that stuff that The Rock and Cena had, but I couldn’t live that life that 6 am take retake, retake, retake. I tell the guys I’m ‘One Take Naitch.’ Unless you’re Vince McMahon, then I’ll take as many takes as you want me to take, but no, I missed a big deal. But now I know that I’m not cut out to go to bed at 12 o’clock at night and get up at six and spend an hour in a make-up chair. So I didn’t miss out on anything, no, but I did have an opportunity.”

Flair didn’t get the chance to portray the secret agent role on the silver screen, but he does play a 1980s international superspy in his new comic book. Read more about CODENAME: RIC FLAIR at this link.
