Jeff Jarrett On Refereeing Tag Title Match At SummerSlam: I’ll Get Out Of The Way And Call It Down The Middle

Officiating is nothing new for WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, so his role as the special guest referee for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam will be a blast for the past.

WWE previously announced that “Double J” would don the striped shirt when The Usos defend the gold against The Street Profits at “The Biggest Party of the Summer.”

During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Jarrett was asked whether he wants to be a “nice match” that he would call down the middle. In response, he rhetorically wondered whether he had ever done anything “illegal” throughout his career. He also recalled how refereeing was his first job in the business, and he learned the importance of getting out of the way.

“I feel like you’re leading the witness,” said Jarrett. “Have you ever in my entire career seen me do anything illegal ever? I really was taught at a very early age, the best referee is the one that you don’t notice. That really goes in sports as well. Don’t make a bad call, get out of the way, let them do their stuff, and let the best team win. Now the ‘Double J’ that I know, that doesn’t really fit his recipe, but I’m gonna call it right down the middle and let the best team win.”

The legend also emphasized that he’s honored to have Nashville host SummerSlam.

“I was really honored,” said Jarrett. “Nashville has had RAW, SmackDown, we’ve never had a premium live event. For the event coming to my hometown, my grandmother started promoting wrestling in 1946 at the fairgrounds, an old building called the Hippodrome, so all the stops along the way. But to be hosting SummerSlam, the biggest party of the summer, it’s a huge deal in Nashville, just to be a part of it.”

Jarrett won’t just be in Nashville for SummerSlam; he will compete in Ric Flair’s last match at the event named after “The Nature Boy” on July 31. More information is available here.
