More than 30 years after his debut, Chris Jericho remains passionate about wrestling, and he’ll compete in another high-profile match at AEW All Out.
Jericho will face Bryan Danielson in a clash between two greats at the pay-per-view on Sunday night.
In an interview with Josh Martinez on Superstar Crossover, Jericho was asked to share his motivation for what keeps pushing him to compete at the highest level. In response, he described how AEW has reignited his passion for wrestling, and his health scare in December was also a factor.
“I think it’s just because I really enjoy what I do,” Jericho said. “I think working for AEW the last three years has kind of reignited my passion for wrestling, my love of wrestling. I had a health scare back in December, so one of the things I did was lose a bunch of weight and take the scare very seriously, and all of those things combined just make you realize how lucky it is that we do this, and how important it is to me. So whether I’ve been doing it for 32 years or 32 days, I love it, and I wanna continue to do it at the highest of levels.”
He went on to highlight his match with Danielson, noting that working with him is a no-brainer because they’ve rarely faced off in the ring, and it made sense for the storylines he’s been involved in for the past few months. Jericho also stated that he expects his match with Danielson to be another addition to the list of great matches he’s had this year.
“Working with someone like Bryan Danielson, it’s a no-brainer because we’ve never really had a match before,” Jericho said. “We’ve had a couple very short matches, I think over ten years ago, but other than that, we’ve never really touched each other in the ring. So it really is so me I feel a dream match of sorts, and one that was just prime and ripe for the taking, and perfect timing for it with the stories we’ve been telling over the last six months or so.
“So I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s gonna be another great match in the list of great matches that I’ve had so far this year, which is going to be one of my best career years, 2022. I don’t think anybody really expected that when the year started, but when the year ended, I think that’s what it’s going to end up being. So working with Danielson is just another example of that.”
