Tony Khan: Athena Has Reached Another Level In The Past Several Weeks

Tony Khan really likes the aggressive side of Athena we’re currently seeing on weekly All Elite Wrestling programming.

All Elite Wrestling owner Tony Khan took part in a Ring of Honor Media Call this week to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about what he’s seen in Athena since joining the company and what the future holds for her, Khan spoke about how impressed he is with her and the compelling television that she’s helped create in recent months.

“I am incredibly impressed with Athena,” Tony Khan began. “And while I can’t say that all of us AEW officials condone her recent conduct. I would say that it has made really compelling television, and I think she has reached another level in the past several weeks. In the past couple of months. I think she’s taken her game to another level. And this aggressive side of Athena you’re seeing, I really like it.

“I think it’s really compelling TV. And she’s a great talent, and I think she’s doing her best work in AEW right now. She’s facing Mercedes Martinez, who’s somebody who’s in both AEW and Ring of Honor and has been a great champion for Ring of Honor and a formidable presence and really, one of the most respected veterans in the locker room in AEW.

“So it’s going to be a great match, and I think there’s an issue of respect here because Athena has not shown respect to the other wrestlers, respect to the people in that locker room, and now Mercedes Martinez is back to really fight a locker room bully. And it’s going to be a very compelling situation; it should be a great match at Final Battle on Saturday afternoon. And Athena, I think, is tremendous, and in particular, right now, she’s doing great for us.”

Athena challenges Mercedes Martinez for the ROH Women’s World Championship at Final Battle on December 10.
