Stephen A. Smith On Potentially Appearing At WrestleMania: I Would Love To Be A Heel Manager

Stephen A. Smith is ready to potentially be a heel manager in WWE.

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair recently appeared on ESPN’s First Take to promote his upcoming Peacock documentary, Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair, which premieres on Monday, December 26. During the interview, Flair claimed WWE is “entertaining” the idea of bringing the ESPN host in for a managing role at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles. The mere potential of that idea coming to fruition prompted Smith to reveal his aspirations of being a heel manager, though he had some conditions.

“Listen, Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan, Paul Heyman and these guys—I would love to be a bad guy manager. I don’t wanna be one of those goody-two-shoes guys, I wanna be the trouble-making bad manager. I think I could pull it off,” Smith said before adding that he wouldn’t want to take any bumps. “If they want me to be a bad guy manager, no one can touch me. I’m gonna add that as part of my contract. Nobody can touch me! I’m too frail.”

Smith and Flair both had praise for WWE’s current management under the direction of co-CEOs Nick Khan and Stephanie McMahon, as well as Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. Additionally, when Flair was asked if he misses the business, he said he misses it everyday but gets to live vicariously through daughter Charlotte Flair, who he says is “coming back soon.”
