Bill Simmons Says He’s Still Working On Vince McMahon Docuseries

Bill Simmons is still working on his docuseries about Vince McMahon.

WWE previously announced the docuseries in 2020. Simmons was set to be involved as the executive producer. Chris Smith, who previously directed Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, was named as the director. Stephanie McMahon stated that the series was set to release in 2022, but a later report indicated that the show had been pulled from Netflix’s schedule amid allegations of sexual misconduct and hush money toward Vince McMahon.

Simmons, an executive producer of the show, confirmed that it is moving forward during the newest episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast.  He addressed McMahon’s return to WWE and noted that he was still working on the docuseries, but it continues to evolve with the situation.

“Vince hasn’t really spoken publicly about all the allegations and the NDAs that he signed and all that stuff,” Simmons said. “We haven’t really heard him talk about it, [and] we probably won’t. So that’s why I just feel like he’s coming back to sell it, and then he’s out. He probably just wants to cash in. I think it really probably did bother him, though, that things were going so well without him. Think about that. I’m working on this massive docuseries right now about him. Obviously that keeps evolving.

“This guy’s been doing this since 1976, this is his. This was a local promotion that he blew up into a whole thing. I think he honestly kind of lost it, that it was doing well without him. When you’re had something for five decades and then it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s gonna fall,’ but it’s like no, it’s not gonna fall apart. It’s doing better.”

On January 6, 2023, McMahon returned to WWE after he previously announced his retirement in July 2022. He was then voted the Executive Chairman of the Board on January 10.

VICE TV aired the 9 Lives Of Vince McMahon documentary in December 2022. More information is available here.
