Former WWE Writer Reveals Nixed Steve Austin Segment From ‘3:16 Day’ Episode Of WWE RAW

Stone Cold Steve Austin has done some crazy things on WWE programming over the years, but Austin 3:16 day on Monday Night RAW was quite the spectacle for a variety of reasons.

Former WWE writer Chris Dunn was a recent guest on the Public Enemies Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When it was brought up that he helped with the Austin 3:16 day episode of WWE RAW from the Performance Center, Dunn said there initially was a backstage segment planned for Steve Austin where he would tell a janitor having a heart attack, Austin 3:16 says, don’t die.

“Oh yeah, I thought I was getting fired that day. Rudy Gobert gets COVID, and then I find out I’m flying to Florida. I don’t know how that tracks,” Chris Dunn said. “But yeah, working with Austin was the best. It was a wild time because nobody knew what was happening. Yeah, that was also a promo I wrote where you write the good version of that promo.

“I had something where we had to incorporate a janitor in it. I don’t know if it made the show; I forget. But I had the janitor have like a heart attack in like an over-the-top way, which I think Austin liked actually. It was like Austin 3:16 says don’t die. And just to show you how production meetings go, somebody who’s not on the writing team raised their hand and said to Vince, ‘Vince, with everything going on with COVID right now. I think it’s inappropriate to say Austin 3:16, don’t die.’ And you’re right; it was taken out of the script.”
