IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match Set For NJPW New Japan Cup Final

Lio Rush will challenge for the gold at the finals of the New Japan Cup.

At NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11, Rush appeared in a video and challenged IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi to a match. New Japan Pro-Wrestling subsequently announced that Takahashi will defend the title against “The Bad Child” at the finals of the New Japan Cup tournament on March 21.

The announcement, courtesy of NJPWs website, is as follows:

At New Beginning in Osaka on February 11, Hiromu Takahashi was surprised by a video message from Lio Rush. Challenging for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Rush declared that he would do what YOH was unsuccessful in attempting at New Beginning in Sapporo earlier this month.

Takahashi quickly accepted, while engaging in a frantic search for the Bad Child, having mistakenly believed that Rush had flown himself to Osaka in secret. While Hiromu is still uncertain of Rush’s location, we do know for sure that he will be in attendance in Nagaoka at the New Japan Cup final on March 21!

Lio Rush will face Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship on the same night as the annual spring tournament winner is determined. Who leaves with the gold, and who will leave with the trophy and a future IWGP World heavyweight Championship shot? Find out live in English on NJPW World!
