The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching and they come recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.

WrestleZone‘s own Ella Jay recently spoke with former OVW Women’s Champion Freya The Slaya, who discussed some of her standout matches from the past year, including bouts with two AEW stars.

“I think I definitely had some great matches with Leila Grey at OVW.  Between the [summer] tour and then us winning the belt from each other, we probably wrestled 50 times last year. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it feels like we wrestled all the time,” Freya said.

Though their battles didn’t quite rack up to 50, Leila Grey and Freya The Slaya wrestled each other nearly a dozen times last year, whether it be in singles or tag team competition. According to “The Queen of the North,” their most memorable bouts revolved around the OVW Women’s Championship. On August 6, Freya unseated Grey to begin her second title reign, but unfortunately, that run wouldn’t last long. On August 11th, the two met again on OVW television, as Grey invoked her rematch for the title. That night ended in a no contest, but a decisive outcome finally materialized at OVW’s The Big One, as Grey regained the OVW Women’s Championship once again.

“I really liked some of the pay-per-view matches we ended up having,” Freya said, “particularly the one [where] she had won the belt from me, after the [initial] rematch [resulted in a no contest]. After that, I thought we had a really great match.”

Outside of Leila Grey, Freya recalled working a lucha-based AEW Dark match against Abadon. “I really loved wrestling Abadon as well. That was kind of a full circle moment because her and I had met when I wrestled there the very first time in 2020, and we had a really great conversation,” she explained.

“Then, she had come back [from injury], and then when I was there, she was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I saw your name. I really want to do a lot of like Lucha stuff. I think you could base for it all.’ I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s perfect.’ What she had in mind is also the style I like wrestling. So, we just had a really instant chemistry of everything we wanted to do in the ring. So, that was super fun as well.”
