Rusev calls out Rey Mysterio ahead of WWE RAW.
The June 8 episode of RAW featured Rey Mysterio and Penta in a high-octane bout for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The finish saw Penta hit a Mexican Destroyer on Mysterio to pick up the win.
After the match, Ethan Page and Rusev attacked both men inside the ring. Dragon Lee tried to make the save but was leveled by the heels. Rusev then performed the ultimate heel act by unmasking Rey Mysterio on live television.
Chad Gable surfaced to a massive pop and cleared the ring before handing the legendary luchador his mask back. In the lead-up to tonight’s RAW, WWE announced that Rusev would be facing Gable.
The Bulgarian Brute took to X ahead of his Monday Night RAW match to call out both Chad Gable and Rey Mysterio. Rusev said he was not surprised by the matchup. He then mocked Gable’s Olympic background and criticized his WWE career, also referencing his El Grande Americano run.
“Alright, Monday Night RAW. Rusev versus Chad Gable.
“And I’m not surprised at all, it’s the same old, same old. But Chad is a failure. I don’t care about that at all because he failed at the Olympics representing America. Then he got so embarrassed by his WWE career that he put a mask on, he pretended to be a Mexican. And they didn’t accept him either because they know he’s full of crap. And now he’s back begging for forgiveness.”
He then shifted his focus to Rey Mysterio, dismissing him and his legacy while making highly disrespectful remarks about the WWE Hall of Famer’s mask. Rusev contrasted himself as a “hero of his people and nation,” claiming he sets a better example than Mysterio did for his son, Dominik Mysterio, before warning both men to stay out of his way ahead of the match.
“Speaking of Rey Mysterio, I don’t care about you. I don’t care about your face, I don’t care about your mask, I’m going to wipe my a** with both of these things. Because you don’t know what it is to be a hero. I am a hero of my people and my nation, and you can’t even inspire your own kid to be a good person, let alone a whole nation. So stay out of my way tonight. Rusev udrya!”
