Bryan Danielson Wants To Compete In The NJPW G1 Climax

Bryan Danielson says his dream is to compete in a G1 Climax.

Danielson has been competing in hard-hitting matches that have drawn plenty of praise since he arrived in All Elite Wrestling in 2021. Given the company’s working relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, some fans have speculated that Danielson could step through the proverbial Forbidden Door and wrestle in Japan at some point, but the possibility has remained limited to fantasty booking so far.

In an interview with Raj Prashad of Uproxx, Danielson commented on potentially competing in the G1 Climax tournament and brought up the logistical challenges that might prevent him from doing so. He noted that AEW CEO Tony Khan might not want to have Danielson take that kind of risk. However, “The American Dragon” stated that he has a dream of doing a G1 with Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli. Danielson expressed that he feels like there’s a 33% chance he’ll get to do it, but he hasn’t talked to Khan about it yet.

“I don’t know because that requires Tony (Khan) to allow me to be off of TV for four weeks or whatever,” Danielson said. “You have to look at it from a Tony investment point of view, right? Does he really want somebody like me who is older to go through that many hard matches, be off of TV for four weeks, and potentially get injured? Probably not.”

“Although, I do have a dream that me, Mox and Claudio [Castagnoli] and maybe Eddie Kingston, just so we have somebody to pick on, would all be able to go do one G1 together, because that would be just so much fun,” said Danielson. “To go do those incredible matches, but do it with your friends so that you all have this experience together. I think that would be incredible. Now, if you’re asking me if Tony is going to let me go do a G1 and is it a smart move for him? Probably not, but the odds of him letting me do it, I would say a 33 percent chance. The odds of him letting me, Mox, and Claudio all be gone for a month off of TV, an astronomically small percentage, but I haven’t even talked to him about it. So maybe with this interview he’ll see it.”

Danielson will challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match at AEW Revolution. Check out the betting odds for the show here.
