Shawn Spears Wants To Win A Title And Take A Picture With His Son, Like Brodie Lee

Shawn Spears wants to immortalize his professional wrestling career the same way that Brodie Lee did.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Shawn Spears was a guest on FTR with Dax Harwood Live to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When Dax asked if he felt standing up for himself going forward would benefit him in an ego-driven industry, Spears offered a very heartfelt response.

“This industry has a very unique way of sometimes making you feel like you’re not good enough,” Spears said. “Sometimes the business moves fast, and even though you’re trying to keep up with it, it kind of sometimes may feel like it doesn’t want you to keep up with it. So it has a tendency to push back on you quite a bit. That’s not my story.

“That’s the story of many professional wrestlers still going to this day. I take some responsibility for being too nice. I was someone who always thought that if I did my job and did what I was told that eventually someone would go around the room and go, ‘You know what, give him a turn given the chance.’

“But as time went on, and I don’t know if this is an age thing, but 21 years goes by very fast. I am much closer to the end of my career than I am at the beginning. And so I’m a big believer in better late than never. So I’m actually going to push for what I want now going forward.”

Dax Harwood brought up the last time we have seen Shawn Spears on All Elite Wrestling was last year in Toronto and questioned what his plans are for the future; Spears spoke about a photo of Brodie Lee and his kids with the TNT Championship and wanting to have a similar experience with his son before he retires.

“Piggybacking off of Toronto. That was a very emotional night for me. So to have two of my closest friends in the business out there with me at that moment. That meant the world to me, so I want you to know that going forward. I’m going to take that with you for the rest of my life. Thank you for being there,” Spears said. “I don’t know if it’s because I lost my mother at the same time I was expecting a son. But I was pulled in a million different directions.

“So, to get to your point about what I want to do going forward. I’m not really jealous of anybody on this planet, talent included. Even though these guys had the best 2022 out of any professional wrestler on the planet. I’m a little slightly jealous, but my favorite picture of all time is Brodie Lee, Luke Harper, John Huber. He has a picture with a TNT Title with both his sons.

“It’s one of my favorite pictures to this day aside from pictures of my own son, but you can see how proud they are of him. You can see how much he recognizes that. I don’t know if it’s because I have a son now, but I am envious of that picture, and I too, want that picture with my son.

“So that would kind of encapsulate a 21-plus year career. Maybe it would inspire him to chase his own dreams and to have a goal. But my goal one way or another soon because I’m done soon is to be a champion in one way, shape, or form so I can take that picture with my son, and I can take that to my grave.”
