Chris Jericho: Jay White Was On A Silver Platter For WWE, He Chose AEW

Chris Jericho shares his thoughts on Jay White signing with AEW over WWE.

The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion’s time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling was clearly coming to an end after he lost both a Loser Leaves Japan Match and a Loser Leaves NJPW match in February 2023. WWE was reportedly interested in bringing him in, but “Switchblade” ultimately signed with AEW instead; he appeared on the April 5 episode of AEW Dynamite, and the company subsequently announced that he was “All Elite.”

Speaking with Tim Battle and Eli on the Battleground Podcast, Jericho discussed AEW’s current momentum and highlighted White’s decision to sign with the company as a positive sign.

“Jay White, what a great example of us still having momentum,” Jericho said. “Hottest free agent in the world, silver platter for WWE. The guy’s six-foot-four, he’s international, he’s got the accent chicks love, he’s a great worker, he’s a great heel, he’s a great babyface, and he chose AEW. If that doesn’t tell you something’s going on with us, I don’t know what will. Just to continue to build that momentum is a very exciting prospect.”

WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs on April 12.
