Steve Maclin has turned to comic books and movies to help develop traits for his character in professional wrestling.
IMPACT Wrestling‘s Steve Maclin recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to discuss a wide variety of subjects. Maclin was asked about embracing The Punisher from Marvel Comics as part of his look and if he has any other plans to add more Punisher-like things to his character. Maclin teased that it’s possible but also admits that he’s taken things from Captain America as well.
“Possibly. I’ve kind of just honed in on what I want to take from The Punisher and even Captain America and taken those inklings that relate to me and build into myself,” Steve Maclin said. “Now I’m dialing more into me than anything. I do have gear planned for New Jack and themed gear going into Rebellion, which I’ll wear for a while now from now on, which I have a lot of meaning into, especially toward my military background,” he explained, “and I think that will be a little more appreciated as well. But for The Punisher side, I don’t know. I take here and there what I want, and we see how it works. I try to be me as much as possible.”
“I try to take what I see in a movie or out of a comic book, and I don’t try to be that person and just try to take a little bit of that trait. More of the Captain America side, it’s more of the nomad side of him where he’s just not good, he’s not bad, he’s just doing what he thinks is right, and I think everybody can relate to that.
“What’s relatable for me to find in a character, and that’s just kind of how it is. Like even the Joker movie, he’s the biggest villain in the world, but there’s a lot of relatable traits where he’s been there the whole time. He could’ve been laying there dead on the street and people would’ve walked by him and nobody would’ve cared. I feel like a lot of people can relate to that as well, and it gets people like, ‘Oh, my god, I can get behind this.’ So those are the things I kind of try to look for in certain things. We’ll see down the line. I don’t like to give all my secrets away.”
IMPACT Rebellion takes place on Sunday, April 16, and it is available for purchase on FITE.
