Backstage Reason For Steve Maclin’s TNA Exit Revealed Amid WWE, AEW Interest — REPORT

Steve Maclin‘s departure from TNA Wrestling appears to have been brewing behind the scenes for quite some time. A new report has shed light on the frustrations that ultimately led to his exit.

The former TNA World Champion officially parted ways with the company after requesting his release, but fresh details suggest creative dissatisfaction played a significant role in the decision.

With interest expected from across the wrestling landscape, Maclin’s next move is already becoming a hot topic.

Steve Maclin reportedly grew frustrated with TNA creative direction

According to Fightful Select, Maclin had been vocal about his concerns regarding TNA’s creative direction since last year. The report stated that he was among several talents who felt the product had not improved following the company’s move to AMC.

Maclin’s departure became official when TNA announced his release on Sunday. The former champion later confirmed the news himself, revealing that the decision originated from him.

“Last week I requested my release from TNA,” Maclin wrote. “I put my blood, sweat, and tears into everything I’ve done over the last 5 years and I’ll always be thankful for my time there. But now, it’s time to STACK BODIES. See you soon.”

Fightful Select also reported that Maclin had hoped to keep the matter private. However, TNA publicly announced his departure, along with that of Myla Grace, through an official press release.

The report noted that neither wrestler was believed to have been informed beforehand that the company intended to make the news public.

Beyond creative concerns, the report stressed growing discussion backstage regarding contracts and compensation. Following the move to AMC, TNA reportedly shifted away from relying heavily on full-time salaried agreements and instead began utilizing more short-term contracts.

Maclin leaves TNA after a successful five-year run that included reigns as TNA World Champion and TNA International Champion. His final match aired on the May 21 episode of iMPACT!, where he unsuccessfully challenged Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship.

With his release now official, reports suggest Maclin is expected to attract significant interest throughout the industry, including from major promotions such as WWE and AEW. For now, one chapter has closed — but the next one may already be taking shape.
