Joey Janela Ready For In-Ring Return After Suffering Second-Degree Burns

Joey Janela is ready to get back in the ring.

Janela suffered serious burns during a six-man tag team deathmatch at the April 15 DDT Dramatic Explosion In Niigata event in Japan. Janela ended up with second-degree burns on his left arm and hasn’t been able to wrestle since then.

In a new interview with Nick Hausman for Haus of Wrestling, Joey Janela says he’s ready to return to the ring this weekend. Janela noted why his in-ring time was limited but said he was good to go now.

“[The burns] are healing. Back in the ring this weekend. I can straighten my arm pretty much now. That was the only issue, that was the only thing preventing me from wrestling the past couple of weeks,” Janela explained, “was because the burn is right on my elbow joint and it was hard to extend my arm. I was walking around like [makes bent motion with arm] this for a few weeks, but now I’m good.”

Hausman asked what the backstage atmosphere was like after he got burned in the match. It was noted how Atsushi Onita was not directly involved in the match, but he was captain for the opposing team in the match.

“I was just pizazzed that it happened, man. I’ve been wanting to wrestle [Atsushi] Onita since I was a kid,” Janela said.

Janela explained how he found Onita due to getting into tape trading as a kid. He said ever since finding one tape, Best Of Barbed Wire 2, he’d been enamored with the genre of wrestling.
