Eric Young On Leaving WWE: I Signed Up For One Thing, It Turned Into Something Else

Eric Young elaborates on his decision to leave WWE and return to IMPACT Wrestling.

Young reportedly requested his WWE release in April, and he returned to IMPACT at IMPACT Slammiversary. Per Fightful Select, the former IMPACT Word Champion didn’t want to work for Vince McMahon following his return.

Speaking with Tim Battle on the Battleground Podcast, Young discussed his return to IMPACT and his decision to leave WWE. He noted that he wasn’t legally allowed to say more about his WWE exit. However, Young stated that

“It’s surreal. I think if you would have asked me six months ago, was that going to be a thing? I would have said probably no,” Young said. “Maybe more than six months. But probably around six months ago, I kind of made the decision that I was walking away from something else, and that’s going to be on the tip of everybody’s tongue.

“I would say that Sean Ross Sapp and his crew did a very good job of covering that, and the details are available through them. I’m not allowed to say anything by law, and what I can say is, I signed up for one thing, and it ended up becoming something else. Personally, professionally, and most importantly to me, morally, I can’t take instructions from a person like that.”

Eric Young’s Return To IMPACT

Eric Young then reflected his return at IMPACT Slammiversary and made it clear that it was a special moment. He highlighted his friendship with IMPACT President Scott D’Amore. The veteran noted that he was trending on social media.

“I found myself walking down that ramp, standing beside one of my best friends for the last 25-30 years, one of the guys that helped me get my first job in IMPACT Wrestling,” Young said. “Donning the red of the Canadian flags and the maple leaf, which is a place I was born and raised, 20 minutes from where I grew up.

“[My return] got a massive reaction, and that is not lost on me, man. I’m not good with social media, but a couple of the guys that are savvy to it said I was, in the wrestling space or whatever you want to call that, I was number three worldwide, so people didn’t forget about me. That’s a good thing to know.
