Rob Van Dam: Tony Khan And I Talked About Me Coming Back To AEW

Rob Van Dam teases that his AEW debut was not a one-off.

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam made his first appearance on AEW programming on the August 2 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, the legend was revealed to be Jerry Lynn’s backup for a confrontation with Jack Perry. The following week, in RVD’s AEW in-ring debut, Perry beat him to retain the FTW Championship.

Speaking on his 1 Of A Kind podcast, Van Dam was asked whether the match was one-and-done situation or if there was more to come. (H/t Inside The Ropes for the transcription)

“Well, was it talked about between me and Tony [Khan] about me coming back? Yeah. The details of that conversation? We’ll have to wait and see,” Rob Van Dam said.

Van Dam went on to describe how AEW CEO Tony Khan seemed happy with his debut, and he was very thankful.

“He was very thankful. Very thankful. He loved the match,” Van Dam said. “He said, it was awesome and it was awesome having me there.”

As of this writing, it is not known when or if Rob Van Dam will return to AEW. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.

“I had only talked to him on the phone before so last night,” Rob Van Dam said. “I met him and, obviously, he was cool, respectful and he reminded me that he had told me this on the phone a long time ago, that as a fan, he was at the stretcher match of RVD and Sabu in Philadelphia. He said he was there, and he said that he, you know, that he felt like that night, you know, was like a big vehicle moment that catapulted me, you know.

“At the time, it was like my favorite match at the time. I loved it. I remember the match, you know, really well, certain spots of it. But at that time, every match for me was the next one would be my favorite, you know, the next one, especially with Sabu. He was there, and that was a real special night for him as a fan too. So pretty cool.”
