TJ Perkins Didn’t Know What ‘The Dab’ Was, Confesses To Copying Popular NBA Star

TJ Perkins rose to stardom thanks in part to his runs in WWE and IMPACT Wrestling. He recently revealed that his signature taunt in the former was inspired by NBA star Russell Westbrook.

TJ Perkins also known as TJP began his pro wrestling career at the very young age of 14. After spending three years in the independent circuit, he signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He has also competed in Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling (now known as IMPACT Wrestling).

In 2016 Perkins signed with WWE. He first made an appearance in the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic tournament. He won the entire tournament and became the inaugural Cruiserweight Champion. He’s also won championships in TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Despite his in-ring skills, one of the things he was known for was his entrance. When he makes his way toward the ring he dances and always hits the infamous ‘Dab’ move. Recently, the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion revealed that he had no idea what ‘The Dab’ meant. He was only copying the dance moves of Los Angeles Clippers player Russell Westbrook.

“I literally used to just copy Westbrook dances for my entrance in WWE. I never knew what “The Dab” was, I just saw Westbrook do it and copied him. To this day ppl thought I was just copying a fading trend… but I literally don’t know/care what any trends are. I just copied Russ,” he tweeted.

TJ Perkins’ run in WWE was short-lived, as he was released in 2019. Following his departure, Perkins returned to IMPACT Wrestling. He is currently a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling and won the IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship twice.
