VertVixen Explains The Significance Of Defending DEFY Women’s Title In Japan

VertVixen is honored to defend the DEFY Women’s Championship in Japan.

Since becoming the inaugural DEFY Women’s Champion in October 2022, VertVixen has traveled across the world defending it. Outside of the United States, Vixen has brought the title to Canada, Japan, and most recently, England. During her latest trip to Japan, Vixen successfully defended the DEFY Women’s Championship against TJPW’s Hikari Noa. Speaking with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, VertVixen explained the personal and professional significance behind her ventures to Japan.

“Japan has always held a really special place in my heart,” Vixen said. “When I was a kid, my dad would go almost every year. He worked for Toshiba at the time. I lost my dad in 2017 to cancer, sadly. But he would always tell us, he wanted to take us over there. He wanted us to experience it. And then at the same time, too, I had been training in Taekwondo. He wanted me to do freakin’ jujitsu, way back in the day. He wanted me to compete. So, the fact that I not only got to go to Japan, I not only got to wrestle in Japan, but I got to defend my American title in Japan, in my brain, it kind of all in honor of my dad.”

Making History

“It meant the world to me that not only did TJPW believe in me enough to defend that title there, but DEFY believed in me enough to take the title to Japan to defend it. It’s just a lot of emotion, a moment in time that I will always hold dear to me because I got to represent Texas, I got to represent my dad. I got to represent DEFY, aka the Defiance in Seattle, and really start to make that title a world championship and not just a States’ championship. I’m making history. I’m very honored to be the one to do it and very grateful to be the one that DEFY believes in to do it.”

VertVixen’s latest title defense occurred at DEFY’s “The Splendid And The Vile” event in England. There, she defeated “The Renaissance Woman” Hyan to retain the DEFY Women’s Championship.
