Report: Jon Moxley Injury On AEW Dynamite Led To Plans Being Changed

Jon Moxley‘s injury forced AEW to change some plans on the spot.

Jon Moxley suffered an injury on the September 22 episode of AEW Dynamite during his match against Rey Fenix. The injury reportedly occurred early on in the match, but Moxley finished the bout and walked out on his own power.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that an audible was called during the bout, leading to Fenix’s win. The changes didn’t end there. Sapp wrote that, originally, a “non-AEW wrestler” was set to appear on AEW Dynamite and challenge Jon Moxley to a match at AEW WrestleDream. However, this plan changed due to the injury. The identity of the individual is not known at this time.

Update: Corey Brennan of Bodyslam.net reports that, per sources, Moxley was scheduled to be “Filthy” Tom Lawlor. Brennan cited sources who noted that if Moxley is cleared to compete on Sunday, the match will be back on.

Lawlor had been set to face Adam Cole at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023,. However, Cole was not cleared to compete, so the match was canceled. Lawlor is a former MLW World Heavyweight Champion, and he remains active on the independent scene.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
