Cody Rhodes Thought Someone Like Mick Foley Would Take Promo Coach Spot At The WWE PC

Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT is set to be a star-studded event. John Cena is set to make his NXT debut, Paul Heyman will be there as well. Former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is set to make her return. Also, Cody Rhodes is scheduled to be there to make a major announcement.

This past Saturday night, The American Nightmare teamed up with Jey Uso at the Fastlane Premium Live Event. The duo managed to defeat The Judgment Day to become the new Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

Following the match, they made an appearance at the post-show Press Conference. During the conference, The American Nightmare was asked if he would follow in his father’s footsteps to train the young and rising stars who are currently competing in WWE NXT. Rhodes replied that he doesn’t plan on doing so. However, he did offer one name that might have been a good fit.

“I don’t think that’s in the card for me. But here’s the thing, I have probably told you guys a bazillion things and somehow ended up in that exact spot. So, I don’t know. Dusty taught communication. He taught promos, he called it communication. No one really filled that spot, after he left. I always thought somebody like a Mick Foley would fill that spot. Somebody who’s been there, who did it. But I am not going to teach them anything. I’m going to be there with them and just enjoy it and have a little fun, it’s outside my comfort zone. I’m genuinely terrified… We’re in a crazy time for our industry. I’m excited for my announcement and being able to bring that to the NXT Universe, and Sports Entertainment fans, and wrestling fans,” Cody Rhodes said.

Cody Rhodes on his upcoming NXT appearance

While answering the same question, Cody Rhodes talked about the deal he had when he signed with the Stamford-based promotion. He mentioned that he never wished to step foot in the performance center. With that being said, he revealed that he’s only going to NXT to have some fun, and is also is excited for Tuesday.

“My manager can tell you this. When I came back to WWE, I flat-out told them that I will never step foot into the Performance Center. And the reason was not my dislike of the Performance Center, is he’s (his father, Dusty Rhodes) everywhere in there. And I… It’s hard, right? And then I ended up being in the Performance Center like a month later to do medical or something… Okay, I went back on that. I just want to go… I have a specific announcement that I want to bring… I’m excited to be there. I’m excited to see Shawn Michaels and what he’s done. Carmelo Hayes is one of my favorite people. Trick (Williams)… I mean the whole… it’s an impressive, impressive, impressive group.”

As mentioned earlier, Asuka, John Cena, and Paul Heyman will all be at NXT and the first 30 minutes will be commercial-free.
