Lacey Evans Says She Requested Her WWE Release

Lacey Evans says her departure from WWE was her own decision.

Evans (Macey Estrella) spoke with Mac Davis and Teddy Long on Road Trip AFTER HOURS about leaving WWE. Davis asked about her potential return to the ring, and Lacey said she wouldn’t rule it out. Davis then said AEW might be a better fit because of the lighter schedule, and she agreed before mentioning how she left WWE.

It was initially reported that her contract had expired and the two sides couldn’t come to terms on a new deal, but the Sassy Southern Belle’s comments contrast that.

“Absolutely. Mac, I’m mean as hell. I don’t know if people realize [this], I’m one mean son of a gun. And I think that was probably my fault, at requesting my release,” she said. “There’s no hard feelings with WWE, it’s great, but that lifestyle is for people who when they hold that title above their head, that’s what makes them feel significant or feel like they’ve accomplished something.

“Man, me being able to make my kids food and cook for my old man, that, to me, is worth all the weight in gold. But no, I can’t say no,” Lacey Evans added. “but I would love to get my hands on a few people.”

Who would she like to square off with?

“I don’t know, does Sgt. Slaughter’s Daughter wrestle? Is she into that kind of thing?”

Leaving WWE

Lacey Evans’ WWE tenure came to an end on August 16. In the days leading up to it, she teased her departure was coming. Evans first posted a GIF that read, “How many days left?” and later wrote on August 15 that fans would address her as Macey Estrella once the clock struck 12.

Lacey Evans signed with WWE in 2016 and worked on the RAW, SmackDown and NXT brands throughout her 7-year career.

She opened her own cafe in Beaufort, South Carolina a week after her release and told Your Island News that she “thought [she] could be of more assistance fighting a different fight than in the WWE ring,” said Estrella about the decision. She told the news outlet that she was focused on helping her community fight against addiction and mental health issues.
