Carlito Says He Always Thought He Would Be Back In WWE

Carlito discusses his return to WWE.

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Carlito made a one-off return at WWE Backlash, where he helped Bad Bunny defeat Damian Priest. He then made a surprise appearance at WWE Fastlane, where he teamed up with the LWO to defeat Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits.

Speaking on Cheap Heat, Carlito was asked whether he thought he would ever return to WWE, or if he accepted that it might not happen. He stated that he always felt like he would come back.

“I think after Puerto Rico [WWE Backlash], if nothing came after that, then I would have said okay, let’s close the book on that and look for something else,” Carlito said. “But for some reason, I never went anywhere else because I always thought that I’d be back. I didn’t think it would be 15 years, but I always had the feeling that I would be back in a WWE ring somehow.”

Carlito Explains Why His WWE Return Took So Long

Later in the interview, Carlito described how he thinks his return took so long because both sides thought they had heat with the other. He noted that he never wanted to go anywhere else, and he was glad they finally aired everything out.

“I just had this feeling that I would be back somehow,” Carlito said. “I don’t know how. The reason I think it took so long, I think it was miscommunication between both sides. I think they thought I had heat with them, they thought they had heat with me, and it was just basically, we didn’t communicate. So time goes by, and you see things a different way, and I’ve always had love for WWE. I always wanted to be in WWE. It’s just, I needed a break. I didn’t need a 13-year break.

“Even when they would talk to me, they were kind of hesitant. They thought maybe I was anti-WWE. I’m like no, it’s not that. I don’t go the go backstage and say hi to everyone. Even if you’re there, it looks like you’re looking for a job. So I don’t do that. My resume is out there, you know what I mean? If you want me, I don’t want to be anywhere if they don’t want me. So I was like look, my resume is out there. If you want me, I’m here. So I think they took that kind of as, ‘Okay, he wants nothing to do with us.’ So I’m glad we were able to finally sit down and air everything out and show that there’s love from both sides.”
