Pat Buck Wants To Be The Irish Barry Horowitz Of AEW

Some wrestlers just have to take the L in a pro wrestling match. That doesn’t mean they’re not entitled to a pat on the back.

Barry Horowitz is one of the best-known enhancement talents in wrestling history. In fact, if you knew Barry Horowitz, your childhood was awesome. While looking up at the lights for the majority of his career, Horowitz paved a realistic path for all-tool players in professional wrestling, and his influence is still being felt to this day.

Speaking with Sam Roberts on the Not Sam Wrestling podcast, Pat Buck reflected on telling Tony Khan that he wants to be a player-coach. Buck wants to help get the most out of guys on the roster such as Satnam Singh, and sees himself as an Irish version of Horowitz.

I’m your (Huckle)Barry

“I’m a proven asset in that, you have all these guys on the roster, and I remember, the conversation was like Powerhouse Hobbs and I looked at like Satnam Singh sitting over there. I went, ‘Give them to me on Dark matches, on live events.’ Let me be the person — I’m like, I can legitimately get 10 minutes out of Satnam Singh. You got this guy who’s an anomaly in India and you have all these people here,” Pat Buck explained, “but you’re only going to get better, I’m not saying good or whatever, but like you only get better from wrestling someone better than you.

“Let me be the person to do that. I’m not looking for — I want to be your Brad Armstrong. I want to be your Irish Barry Horowitz. I want to be that,” he noted. “But on live events, too, I can go a little bit longer with people and that’s how that kind of came to be.

An exciting role

Pat Buck said his motivations for wrestling are a bit selfish too. He wants his kids to see him in the ring, but he also wants to push talent and help them get better.

“Partly, I would like to show my kids, ‘Hey, yeah, daddy does this.’ But I don’t care about championships,” he continued. “I’m a coach. Let me be a player-coach… I’m not scared to get in the room with anybody and I’ll get something out of them. That excites me. Like, let me see if I can get a match of someone who’s kind of — or the other guy’s terrible, whatever. Let me try. Maybe it will be terrible but put me in that role because other talent don’t want it.”

Pat Buck most recently lost a match to Josh Woods on the October 19 episode of Ring of Honor.
