Report: Matt Cardona’s Return At IMPACT Bound For Glory Was A One-Off

Matt Cardona returned at IMPACT Bound For Glory, but the appearance was reportedly a one-off.

At IMPACT Bound For Glory, Matt Cardona made his return as he competed in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet. The match marked Cardona’s first time competing for IMPACT since January.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that Cardona’s return was a one-off, and he has not signed a contract with the company. Per Sapp, the two sides seemed open to working together again in the future.

Cardona had been a regular for IMPACT Wrestling until earlier this year, when he and IMPACT stopped working together. We’re told that IMPACT wanted to stop using non-contracted wrestlers so much, and that Cardona wasn’t interested in signing a contract, as he’s doing well without one.

Matt Cardona’s IMPACT Wrestling Run

Matt Cardona made his IMPACT debut at IMPACT Hard To Kill 2021, and he was a featured member of the roster for the next two years. Cardona won the IMPACT Digital Media Championship in February 2022. He held the title until Rich Swann dethroned him at Wrestling REVOLVER Vegas Vacation in May. Cardona later teamed up with Brian Myers, and they chased the tag team titles.

Cardona and IMPACT stopped working together earlier in 2023. As previously reported, per Sapp, IMPACT wanted to stop using non-contracted wrestlers so much, and Cardona wasn’t interested in inking a deal. He had been working on a handshake deal prior to his departure.

Cardona continues to compete for MLW, GCW, and other promotions.
