Gunther Praises The Miz For Survivor Series Showing, Will Await His Next Challenger

WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther successfully defended his title over the weekend at Survivor Series against The Miz to extend his streak as the longest reigning champion in company history.

Following the show, Gunther was involved in the post-show press conference where he was asked about his opinion of The Miz now that Miz showed he could hang in the ring with The Ring General.

Gunther said, “I can be very satisfied with today because I have been in the ring with a two-time grand slam champion, someone that has been around forever. I think he’s a guaranteed Hall of Famer down the line. It was a challenge for me because I mentioned it before, I’m not the typical superstar that is made out of the classic WWE mold. So I wanted to have that challenge. I told him last week that I don’t think he belongs in the ring or in the sport. I think he proved today that he does, just not with me.”

He was also asked who his next challenger would be for the championship. Gunther said that it’s not his job to find challengers but for challengers to approach him. He said “Whoever qualifies to be the next rightful challenger. I’m the one that people need to chase, I do not have to go out there and name people. I’m the one that people want to go after, and it’s on them to step up and qualify.”

Gunther was also asked if he’s considered trying to be a double champion and also try and challenge Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. Gunther indicated that it is not something that is on his mind but if he was an entrant into the Royal Rumble he should be considered a favorite.
