The Rock Announced To Play Former UFC Fighter Mark Kerr In A24’s The Smashing Machine

The Rock will step into the octagon for his next movie project with A24, The Smashing Machine.

According to Deadline, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be teaming up with director Benny Safdie for the project. Johnson’s Seven Bucks Production acquired the rights to produce this movie in 2019.

As for what the movie would entail, Deadline revealed that it will cover Mark Kerr’s “struggle with addiction, winning, love, and friendship in the year 2000.”

For those unfamiliar with who Mark Kerr is, he is a former two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, a World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner, and a former PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion.

Prior to his career in the UFC, Kerr was a former collegiate wrestler who earned multiple accolades throughout the course of his career. Kerr was also the subject of the HBO documentary THE SMASHING MACHINE, which was released in 2003.

Further details regarding the filming schedule and other cast announcements haven’t been revealed at this time.
