The IIconics Would’ve Worn More Y2K And Pop Culture Inspired Gear If They Stayed With TNA Longer

The IIconics revealed the difference between working in WWE and TNA. They also noted what they would do if they went back to WWE or signed with AEW in the future.

Jessica McKay and Cassie Lee spoke about one of the outfits they wore in TNA during an interview with McKenzie Mitchell on Threads. They talked about a Britney Spears-inspired look and mentioned how they would have used more tribute styles if they had remained in the company longer.

McKay said: “The inspiration comes [from] Slave 4 U, and we have an entrance piece skirt with it that has the feathers, exactly like she had. This was a different person that made this one. Jeffrey. Super talented, does a lot of drag show costumes, so he knew what he was doing.”

Cassie Lee then added: “We were just in our Impact era. We were so inspired by Y2K and pop culture, specifically Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera. Pop stars we were heavily influenced on. There were others, but we weren’t there long enough to have everything made that we wanted.”

The IIconics Had More Freedom In TNA Compared To WWE

When asked about the differences between working in WWE and TNA, they revealed they had more freedom when working in Impact.

McKay said: “At Impact, we could just breathe a little bit. We could just do what we wanted, just be us and have fun. Everything from our hair to our makeup.”

“We were trying hairstyles; we would have bubble ponytails, all different crazy hairstyles and makeup to match the gear. All our gears were just so out there and so different each time. We were just having fun!”

Control Is The Most Important Thing If They Go To WWE or AEW

The IIconics stated that the most important thing they need is control over their characters if they do move to WWE or AEW.

The pair told a story about how the WWE didn’t let them be a team. However, once they were able to be themselves as a duo, then things looked up for them.

“I would still love to do our pop stars. I think blending that with the IIconics is our highest performance. I’m so proud of our Impact presentation just because we had so much control and say in it. I think if we brought that to another stage, that would be fun for us.”, Lee said before McKay added:

“Our chemistry is just so natural that when people try to tell us how our chemistry should be, we’re just ‘uh uh.’ It doesn’t work.”

Finally, Cassie Lee added: “It truly doesn’t work! An example of that was in NXT, where they were like, ‘You guys are not gonna be a team, so start doing stuff separately.’ So we came up with these two completely different characters.

“Then, of course, they put us together as these characters and had us do a backstage, and so we’re trying to film this backstage as our individual characters, and they’re like, ‘Hmm… something’s just not working here.’

“We looked at each other and were like, ‘Do you want to just do us?’ and they were like ‘Ah! perfect!’. Just let us be us!”
