Former WWE Star Had the Option To Stay With the Company Before Recent Exit

Kay Lee Ray, formerly known to WWE fans as Alba Fyre, has clarified that WWE did not exactly release her. Fyre emerged as one of several names whose exit became public after WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster changes. However, unlike many wrestlers who were released and placed under a 90-day non-compete clause, her situation was different.

The Scottish star returned to the ring for Pro Wrestling EVE in the UK on June 5, only weeks after leaving WWE. Her quick return surprised some fans, as most former WWE talent must wait 90 days before competing elsewhere.

Kay Lee Ray reveals her WWE exit was a personal decision

Speaking to Daily Star after the event, Kay Lee Ray explained that her WWE contract had run out. Ray also revealed that staying with WWE was an option, but she ultimately decided it was time to move on.

“My contract was up, and I knew it was coming up, and I did a decision of whether I wanted to stay or not. And I know some other people got fired, and they have a 90-day clause. But because mine was just contract ending, it means I didn’t have the 90 days, and I was able to come and do this,” Ray said.

Her comments explain why she was able to wrestle again almost immediately after leaving WWE. Since she wasn’t released, she was free to accept bookings as soon as her contract expired.

Some fans assumed a lack of singles opportunities may have played a role in her decision. However, Ray said she enjoyed many of the roles she had during her WWE run.

“No, again, I’ve been singles for a long time. So it was good to get into, like, some tag team stuff with Isla. We had a good feud as well. I think we worked really well together, and enjoyed the feud we had together, and then that came into the tag team stuff, and again, it’s just another character for me to play. I’m always going to try and do that to my best ability. Same with the Secret Hervice stuff. It wouldn’t have been my go-to, but I had a lot of fun doing that,” Ray said.
