Timothy Thatcher Opens Up About ‘Dodging A Bullet’ With Concussion In MLW Match

Former WWE Superstar Timothy Thatcher recently made his return to Major League Wrestling this past weekend. He wrestled one of his biggest rivals during his run in NXT, Matt Riddle. Prior to his match at the MLW War Chamber event, Thatcher competed last in Major League Wrestling back in July 2023 against Tracy Williams at MLW Never Say Never. The match was cut short as Thatcher suffered a concussion.

While speaking to WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Thatcher opened up about his concussion and the aftereffects. Thatcher revealed that he had been training his neck for a long time to protect him and avoid any career-threatening damages.

“Thankfully for me, I learned very early in this pro wrestling adventure that you need to train your neck. And the stronger that your neck is when these things do occur, the recovery is usually a little better. Because the recovery is not as bad as it could be. Thankfully on that one, I did not have any ill-effects afterwards. I time-traveled and it’s something that you keep watch over but…When I got back home, I went to the gym and that’s usually a good… You know, that’s a sign. If you start working out and you’re in a bad state mind-wise it’ll let you know real quick.

What was the worst concussion Timothy Thatcher ever had?

During the same interview, Thatcher mentioned that the worst concussion he ever had was eight years ago and he was out for a month due to that.

“The worst concussion I ever had was in 2016. And I was out a month on that one. And that one was horrible. Thankfully, I didn’t have any serious ones since then. Except for my wonderful ‘time travel’ at the last MLW [event I worked]. But thankfully, as I said, trained my neck very good so it holds up. My body, as ridiculous as it is, it does get callous to the abuse that you take. It does add up. You have to keep your eye on it. You can’t be stupid, obviously. So, thankfully I didn’t have any ill effects afterwards. It was only the flash knockout and then I was able to wake up for my flight the next morning, no problem. I got home.

“I was able to got back to training the way that I always trained. And there was no effects. So, I think I dodged a bullet on that one, thankfully. But those things always weigh on your mind. And the longer that I do this, obviously, it weighs on my mind more. Because, it does, it is cumulative. And there is only so many times that it could happen. So, that is a scary thing. But it is part of the ridiculousness that we chose to getting kicked in the face for a living. So, ooh! peaks and valleys sir,” Timothy Thatcher said.
