Janel Grant Files Motion To Strike Vince McMahon’s Preliminary Statement

Janel Grant and her attorneys have responded to Vince McMahon’s statement.

Vince McMahon and his lawyers on April 23 filed a motion in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against him, seeking to go to private arbitration. McMahon also denied Grant’s claims; Grant previously alleged that McMahon engaged in sexual assault and sex trafficking of her.

Grant responded to the filing on April 24 and motioned to strike McMahon’s preliminary statement, which called Grant’s complaint “salacious, false and defamatory” and targeted her credibility.

In the filing, Grant’s team wrote, “Instead of using his Motion in the appropriate manner—to raise legal arguments concerning whether this dispute must be submitted to arbitration—McMahon instead uses the Motion’s ‘Preliminary Statement’ as a platform to launch vicious falsehoods attacking Janel’s moral character in a transparent attempt to harass and intimidate her into submission.”

Furthermore, Grant claims that McMahon’s statements about her private life have no bearing on the merits of her claim or motion:

“Yet even if McMahon’s falsities concerning Janel’s private life were true (they are not), these statements have no bearing on the merits of Janel’s claims, let alone the Motion. McMahon’s statements have no place in the Motion, which should be concerned solely with whether this dispute must be submitted to arbitration.” (H/t Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics)

Grant’s lawyers, including Ann Callis, have asked the court to strike McMahon’s preliminary statement from the motion and to “admonish McMahon and his counsel in a manner the Court deems appropriate.”

Vince McMahon’s Lawyer Responds

Update: POST Wrestling shared a statement from Vince McMahon’s lawyer Jessica T. Rosenberg, who responded to Janel Grant’s motion to strike:

“Plaintiff had no right to bring this case in a public court but did so anyway. Now that she chose this public forum to falsely accuse Mr. McMahon, she wants to silence his ability to respond. She can’t have it both ways.”

McMahon has previously denied Grant’s claims. He resigned from WWE and TKO in January, and he is under federal investigation.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
