Jake Roberts Says His Initial AEW Contract Was Only Six Weeks Long

Jake Roberts has stayed in AEW much longer than he originally anticipated.

The WWE Hall of Famer debuted for the company in March 2020, on the Dynamite following Revolution 2020. He immediately began a feud with Cody Rhodes, aligning himself with the “Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer.

The Snake masterfully led Lance Archer to the final of the final of the inaugural TNT Championship tournament. While he signed a new contract with the company in 2024, Jake “The Snake” Roberts was initially only signed to AEW for a very short time.

Jake Roberts appeared on a recent episode of Rewind Recap Relive [H/T to Fightful for the transcription]. The Snake discussed his initial AEW run in 2020. He revealed that the plan was only for him to be there for six weeks, likely only until the end of the TNT Championship tournament.

However, a month into his deal, he was handed a deal for another year. Clearly Jake Roberts impressed Tony Khan, as he continues to be employed by AEW four years later.

“We made a deal for me to be there for six weeks.” Jake Roberts revealed. “And at the end of four weeks, they gave me some papers saying I was going to be there for a year. Then, when the year contract was up, they gave me another contract for two years, and I just got another contract for a year. So, yeah, I’m still there.”
