If The Rock got his way, the road to WrestleMania 41 would have looked very different.
Last weekend at WWE Elimination Chamber, Cody Rhodes turned down The Rock’s offer to be his champion which resulted in John Cena turning heel and aligning with The Final Boss on the road to WrestleMania.
But according to a new report, things could have potentially gone very differently than what we saw last Saturday.
In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that The Rock initially wanted to have Cody Rhodes turn heel and align with him in the build to WrestleMania 41.
This idea was rejected by Rhodes and plans shifted to John Cena, who was reportedly Rock’s second choice.
Sources within WWE believe a Cody Rhodes heel turn could have hurt the momentum the company currently has. The general feeling is the current WWE audience belongs to Cody.
This report was backed by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful earlier this morning.
