For almost three decades, Michael Cole has called wrestling matches and told stories for WWE. Last night, though, he lent his voice to a different type of wrestling.
From the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, WWE Raw commentator and sports broadcaster Pat McAfee hosted an event titled Big Night AHT, with a wide panel of special guests joining him. Amongst the guests was his broadcast colleague Michael Cole, who emerged onstage with a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey in his hand (after nearly falling down the stairs).
“Pittsburgh, I want to thank all you guys for welcoming me into your city over the past 48 hours. I’ve actually been called ‘The Yinzer’ about 300 times,” Cole said, seemingly intoxicated. “Last night, Pat, me, and the boys went to the Pirates game. We drank gallons and gallons of IC Light, not the mango. Then we came across the street for the Penguins game…drank more gallons and gallons of IC Light. I think I like hockey now. I know who Sidney Crosby is and I called that Iceburgh guy (Penguins mascot) a ‘jackoff.'”
While continuing his address to the Pittsburgh crowd, Cole noted that he had long dreamed of drinking Jack Daniels on a stage in front of thousands of people like a rock and roll star. Thanks to McAfee, Cole finally got to turn that dream into a reality.

After fulfilling his dream, Cole shifted into work mode by providing play-by-play commentary for a sumo wrestling match. The commentators in the sumo match were introduced by WWE Raw ring announcer Alicia Taylor. Comedian Shane Gillis stepped up as the special guest referee.
