Pat McAfee and his family are dealing with another heartbreaking loss after saying goodbye to one of their longtime pets. Just a few months after losing their beloved dog, Valerie Ann, the family has now lost Theodore, lovingly called Teddy Bear or Teddy Ten Toes.
Pat McAfee’s wife, Samantha McAfee, shared the sad news on Instagram. She revealed that Teddy passed away peacefully at home after suffering a stroke. In her emotional message, she described him as much more than a pet, saying he had been a constant source of comfort for nearly two decades.
Samantha McAfee shares emotional farewell to Theodore
In her Instagram post, Samantha explained that Theodore’s condition worsened after he suffered a stroke. He could no longer walk, control his bladder, or eat. Knowing he was suffering, the family made the difficult decision to let him pass peacefully at home.
“After suffering from a stroke resulting in the inability to move, control his bladder and not eating. Our sweet Theodore also known as Teddy Bear or Teddy Ten Toes, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge peacefully at home,” she wrote.
Samantha looked back on the special bond they shared. She adopted Teddy when he was just eight weeks old.
“I brought Teddy home when he was just 8 weeks old and from that day on he was by my side through every season of life. He wasn’t just a cat; he was my first pet on my own, he was a family member and one of my greatest comforts. He has been my constant for 17 years, just under half of my life,” she added.
Samantha also celebrated Teddy’s fun personality in her tribute. She remembered how the big cat won over people who usually preferred dogs.
She admitted that losing Teddy has made an already emotional year even harder.
Earlier this year, Samantha announced the passing of Valerie Ann, the McAfee family’s dog, after years of health issues. Even though the family still has two children and several other pets, she said Teddy’s absence has changed the feeling inside their home.
“Even with 2 kids and 5 other pets, the house somehow feels quieter now esp following the loss of Valerie. There’s this emptiness with every opening of a water bottle, walking room to room and he’s not there, sleeping without his purr sound next to me. Who knew a cat would have such an impact on me,” Samantha wrote.
Samantha ended her tribute by thanking Teddy for 17 wonderful years of love and companionship. She also imagined him reuniting with Valerie once again.
