Ricky Saints is set to defend his North American title next week on WWE NXT.
On WWE NXT, Saints spoke about his recent win over Ethan Page at Stand & Deliver. The Heritage Cup Champion Lexis King interrupted him, and the two quickly got into a heated exchange. King warned that he was coming for the North American Title.
Ricky Saints fired back, saying King’s mouth kept writing checks he couldn’t cash. King then challenged Saints to a “Cup vs. Title” match with “Winner Takes All” for next week which Saints accepted.
With a huge Cup vs. Title match set for next week, Lexis King still had business to handle on the same night. Later in the show, he competed in a Heritage Cup Championship match against a mystery opponent.
His mystery opponent turned out to be none other than three-time Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar. The match saw Dar defeat Lexis King, capturing the Heritage Cup for a record fourth time.
This victory changed next week’s match from a winner takes all title match to a singles title match, with Ricky Saints defending his North American Title against Lexis King.
Ricky Saints shares original pitch for his name in NXT
Speaking at the media scrum during WrestleMania 41 media day, Ricky Saints was asked if he had always planned to use “Ricky” as his first name, or if he considered other options before settling on the final name.
“There wasn’t much thought besides I was looking at — I had an old yearbook and I was looking through it, and it had a huge [New Orleans] Saints logo on it,” Ricky Saints said.
Saints also said he briefly considered using ‘St.’, which is the abbreviation for Saint. However, he ultimately decided that he should spell the full word out.
“And for some reason, I was just playing around with it. It was just going to be ‘St.’ but I said, ‘Maybe I should just spell it out,’” he added.
