Ric Flair is back with another tweet, claiming to be ‘The Hardcore King’ this time.
For context, Flair tweeted a clip of his Extreme Rules match with The Big Show (aka Paul Wight) from 2006. The brief footage shows a bloody Flair cutting open Show’s forehead with a barbed wire baseball bat before putting on some additional damage.
“You’re Looking At The Hardcore King! WOOOOO!”
The bout in question took place at the Target Center in Minneapolis on July 11, 2006, and saw The Big Show retain his ECW World Heavyweight Championship over Flair under the Extreme Rules stipulation.
Ric Flair calling himself ‘The Hardcore King’ is kind of ironic (and funny) given his disparaging remarks against the widely touted ‘King of Hardcore’ Mick Foley in the past. Both men have since buried the hatchet but their personal issues were once talk of the wrestling world.
What was Ric Flair’s beef with Mick Foley?
Foley’s issues with Flair stemmed from The Nature Boy’s comments against The Hardcore Legend. Flair went as far as saying Foley a “glorified stuntman” in his autobiography. Foley responded by calling out Flair’s booking skills.
Fans got a glimpse of the real-life animosity during the Ric Flair-Mick Foley program in 2006, when both men peeled back the curtain on their hatred for each other. Despite the mutual grudge, the two Hall of Famers remained professional in doing business with each other.
The result was a series of brutal matches that culminated with Flair defeating Foley in their highly underrated I Quit match at SummerSlam 2006. Both men would square off for the final time in TNA four years later, with Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy emerging as the Last Man Standing.
