WWE NXT Results: Review, Grades, Card For June 17

Our WWE NXT results for tonight include Blake Monroe signing her NXT contract, Trick Williams teams with TNA’s First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro) to battle TNA’s Elijah, Josh Briggs & Yoshiki Inamura, WWE Evolution Eliminator matches begin with Lash Legend clashing with Kelani Jordan, Thea Hail taking on Jaida Parker, Zaria battling Izzi Dame, and Jordynne Grace looking to advance against Lola Vice. Here’s our review and grades for tonight’s show, live from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

WWE NXT Card:

The show kicks off with a video package highlighting last week’s action.

WWE Evolution Eliminator Match: Thea Hail vs. Jaida Parker

Hail attacks Parker during her entrance. The fight eventually spills into the ring, and the bell finally rings. Hail sends Parker out of the ring. Dive by Hail. Hail drives Parker’s back into the ring apron. High crossbody block by Hail. Exploder suplex by Hail. Parker kicks out.

Winner- Jaida Parker

Grade: B

This was a fun, quick match. Parker outsmarted Hail to win with the hidden tap out. Have we seen a finish like that before? Creative stuff.

WWE Evolution Eliminator Match: Lash Legend vs. Kelani Jordan

Legend tosses Jordan around the ring. Jordan avoids a splash and lands a series of kicks. Jordan stumbles as she attempts rolling thunder. Legend gets to her feet. Jordan sends Legend flying with a rana. Dropkick by Jordan. Legend falls out of the ring. Jordan takes Legend out with an Asai moonsault. After the break, Legend works an Argentine backbreaker. Jordan flips out of it and lands a codebreaker.

Legend runs into a cartwheel elbow strike from Jordan. Sliced bread #2 by Jordan. Jordan follows that with a frog splash. Legend kicks at two. Jordan goes up for her finish. Legend cuts her off and sets up an avalanche back suplex. Jordan counters with a splash. Jordan attempts a 450. Legend gets her knees up. Legend hits her finish for the win.

Winner- Lash Legend

Grade: C+

Save for a stumble early on by Jordan, this was a solid match that would have been a bit better with more time to develop. The finish on this one seemed a bit rushed.

The Don of NXT

Tony D’Angelo says being the Don he has to worry about people stabbing him in the back. With everything that’s been going on, D’Angelo doesn’t know what to believe. Luca Crusifino joins D’Angelo in the ring. Crusifino asks D’Angelo if this is really how he wants to handle this. D’Angelo says yes; if Crusifino is going to lie to him, he’s going to do it in front of the NXT Universe as well. Crusifino tries to defend himself. D’Angelo doesn’t believe him.

D’Angelo tells Crusifino to look him in the eye and tell him if he’s with Stacks. Crusifino tries to speak, but Stacks interrupts, flanked by two unknown goons. Stacks asks Crusifino if he’s ever doubted him like D’Angelo is right now. A brawl breaks out. Crusifino stands with D’Angelo but accidentally decks him while trying to hit Stacks. Stacks rolls out. D’Angelo is shocked.

Grade: C-

This.. this angle isn’t working. Stack’s betrayal was long telegraphed, and after losing to D’Angleo, this one has just lost steam. Crusifino is good in the ring but didn’t light the world on fire here tonight on the mic.

Trick Williams, AJ Francis, & Wes Lee w/High Ryze & KC Navarro) vs. Elijah, Josh Briggs & Yoshiki Inamura

Inamura and Lee kick off the match. Lee lands a dropkick. Inamura runs over Lee. Briggs tags in and double teams Lee with Inamura. After a double flapjack, Inamura and Briggs land stereo strikes. Francis gets a blind tag and runs over Briggs. Francis runs into a boot. Williams tags in and eats a sidewalk slam. Elijah gets the tag and works Williams’ arm. Elijah lands a flurry of offense, capped with a rope walk flying knee for a near fall.

The fight spills out of the ring. Francis sets up a dive but stops short and laughs at the crowd (good one). Francis gets booted in the face by everyone. After the break, Francis and Co. are working on Inamura. Briggs gets the tag, and everyone brawls. Inamura gets a blind tag and flattens Williams with a big splash for the win.

Winners- Elijah, Josh Briggs & Yoshiki Inamura

Grade: C+

Williams is a world champion. Why is he eating a pin from, of all people, Inamura? Why bother having this match if it wasn’t going to serve to strengthen Williams’ reign? This booking is nonsensical.

WWE Evolution Eliminator Match: Zaria vs. Izzi Dame

Zaria and Dame trade big shots. Zaria crushes Dame in the corner. Suplex by Zaria. After the break, Dame is working over Zaria. Zaria fires up. Zaria calls for her finish. Tatum Paxley runs down to ringside and accidentally distracts Zaria. Zaria walks into a Sky High from Dame. Dame pins Zaria.

Winner- Izzi Dame

Grade: C+

These two moved a mile a minute here in the worst way. Nothing had time to develop, and the whole affair, including the finish with Paxley, seemed not just rushed but forced. Zaria’s “thing” with Ruca is interesting; they should focus on that instead of whatever it was.

WWE Evolution Eliminator Match: Jordynne Grace vs. Lola Vice

After the break, Grace crushes Vice with a rolling senton followed by a basement elbow strike. Vice kicks out. Grace tries a Vader bomb. Vice counter with a triangle! Grace stands up and drops Vice with a powerbomb. Both women are down. Both women fight up top. Vice lands an avalanche arm DDT. Head kick by Vice. Grace kicks out. After a series of counters, Grace hits the Grace Driver for the win.

Winner- Jordynne Grace

Grade: B

Vice looked great here tonight. Grace won out, but Vice showed how effective her MMA style can be against Grace’s power. In the end, Grace outwrestled Vice, which makes perfect sense.

Contract Signing

NXT GM Ava is in the ring to officiate the signing. “The Glamour,” Blake Monroe joins Ava in the ring. Monroe notes the moment the NXT Universe has been waiting for. WWE has always been Monroe’s dream. Now that she’s here, this women’s division is all hers. Monroe signs her contract. Fatal Attraction interrupts. Women’s NXT Champion Jacy Jayne asks why Ava is kissing Monroe’s @$$. Henley and Nyx all complain about Monroe trying to steal their thunder. Monroe says the rumors are true: Fatal Influence are insecure as they are b*tches. Jayne says the division doesn’t need Monroe. Monroe slaps Jayne. Henley attacks Monroe. Jayne, Nyx, and Henley put Monroe through a table.

Grade: B

Good opening promo by Monroe. Jayne and the rest of Fatal Influence finally got to stand tall for once. We watched Henley, Jayne, and Nyx seemingly lose every match for months. If we are supposed to buy into Jayne as champion, she has to win. This is a start.

WWE NXT Review:

Tonight’s show was a mixed bag of head-scratching creative, and odd pacing that dragged the rest of the show.
