Samoa Joe was victorious, but he didn’t leave the ring with his arm raised.
The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs) defended the AEW Trios Championship against the Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta) and Gabe Kidd in the opening match at AEW All In: Texas. The Opps picked up the win, as the finish saw Samoa Joe hit Wheeler Yuta with the Muscle Buster to score the pinfall victory for his team.
However, the Death Riders didn’t take the loss well. The trio attacked Samoa Joe after the bell and wrapped a chair around his neck. Claudio stomped down on it, which led to Samoa Joe being taken out of the arena on a stretcher.

It’s unclear if this was done to write Joe off the show, or if he’s taking time off after this (potentially due to any obligations for Twisted Metal‘s second season, which premieres on Peacock on July 31). However, this attack likely takes Joe out of the equation for the Texas Death Match main event later tonight. That match will see the Death Riders’ Jon Moxley defend the AEW World Championship against ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. The main event will be contested under Texas Death Match rules.
Our Matt Black gave this match a B+ grade. He called it a fun opener, but the storyline angle also seemed to take some air out of the crowd. Check out our full AEW All In event coverage here.
