Samoa Joe’s latest Hollywood project continues to grow, as a major addition has been made to the cast of Twisted Metal Season 3.
The news arrives just weeks after the former AEW World Champion stepped away from television. This left fans wondering what was next for the veteran star.
Joe officially announced his hiatus from AEW during the May 27 edition of Dynamite. He told viewers that “Hollywood’s ringing” before handing leadership of The Opps over to HOOK. Now, another piece of that puzzle has come into focus.
Mark Hamill set to expand Samoa Joe’s twisted Metal Story
According to Deadline, Mark Hamill has joined the recurring cast of Twisted Metal Season 3 as Pope Charlie Kane. He portrays the leader of the Eastern Sovereignty who is also the estranged father of Sweet Tooth.
For wrestling fans, that connection is particularly notable because Sweet Tooth is physically portrayed by Samoa Joe, while Will Arnett provides the character’s voice. The addition of Charlie Kane brings a major piece of Sweet Tooth’s backstory into the spotlight. Moreover, the casting and writing could further expand the character’s role in the series.
Production on Season 3 officially began on June 15 in Toronto, Canada, and is scheduled to continue through Aug. 26. With filming now underway, Joe is expected to remain away from professional wrestling for roughly two months while working on the project.
The casting news also drew praise from series star and executive producer Anthony Mackie, who called Hamill “a true legend.” Mackie revealed he was excited to see what the veteran actor would bring to the Twisted Metal universe.
The popular Peacock series, based on the classic PlayStation franchise, has become one of the platform’s biggest scripted successes. Season 3 will continue under new showrunner David Reed, though plot details remain under wraps for now.
For Joe, it’s another step forward in a growing acting resume. While wrestling fans may miss seeing him in an AEW ring, his Hollywood momentum is showing no signs of tapping out. For now, the road ahead leads to Toronto — and perhaps another memorable chapter for Sweet Tooth.
