AEW Dynamite Card

  • Hangman Page vs. Wheeler Yuta
  • “Timeless” Toni Storm vs. Billie Starkz
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Hechicero

AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with an announcement that there will be a tag team eliminator tournament, with the winning team to challenge for the titles next month at Forbidden Door. That tournament will kick off later on tonight.

Hangman Page is backstage with Renee Paquette. Page says he’s taking tonight’s match against Wheeler Yuta because of what the Death Riders did to Colt Cabana on Collision. Page says he won’t regret anything he does tonight.

MJF interrupts and tells Hangman he’ll get his title shot against him without using his contract. Page says MJF isn’t going to talk his way into a title shot; he’s either going to have to use the contract or earn it, and Page is certain he won’t do either. Hangman leaves, and MJF is left looking furious over what just happened.

Hangman Page vs. Wheeler Yuta

  • The finish of the match saw Hangman Page hit Wheeler Yuta with the Buckshot Lariat to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Hangman Page

After the match, Page bloodied Yuta with the chain and threatens to toss him over the ropes to choke him like he did Moxley. But once the Death Riders don’t show up to try and save him, Page informs Yuta that no one came out the save him and lets him go.

Grade: B+

This was surprisingly quick. AEW doesn’t typically open its shows with a quick match, but I suppose the aftermath meant more than the match itself. Nice showcase for Hangman, and Yuta loses nothing. We already know he’s the Death Riders’ whipping boy.

Athena has a plan

We hear from Athena and Billie Starkz backstage. The two women run down Toni Storm. Athena tells Starkz that she wants her to take Storm out in their match later tonight.

AEW World Tag Team Title Contender’s Eliminator Tournament: FTR (w/ Stokely Hathaway) vs. JetSpeed

  • The finish of the match saw Dax Harwood catch Kevin Knight in a victory roll, using Stokely’s crutch for leverage to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: FTR

After the match, Tony Schiavone gets in the ring to interview them. Hathaway says Adam Copeland belongs in prison. Hathaway says he’s not a professional wrestler so he had no business putting his hands on him last week. Stokely says Copeland is a horrible human being and a loser, calling him a cancer to AEW.

This brings out Copeland with a microphone in hand. Stokely says he made it perfectly clear that Copeland couldn’t get in the vicinity of FTR and wants to know what he’s doing here. Copeland says he forgot, but he made a business deal with a group to do to them what he can’t, and their business is hurting people.

The Hurt Syndicate hit the ring and beat on FTR until referees and security came out to try and separate the two teams. Copeland got in the ring to spear Hathaway again, but accidentally got one of the security guards instead as Stoke pulled them into the line of fire.

Grade: A

This was a great match, but I’m not really sure why this was a first-round matchup. I feel like this could have taken place much later in the tournament. Maybe even the actual finals. Feels like a weird choice to do this here, but since they didn’t reveal any of the other matches I’m gonna let this one play out for now.

The former Patriarchy gets a new name?

Nick Wayne, Kip Sabian, and Mother Wayne are backstage. Wayne says they explained why they did what they did to Christian Cage and now they want to back it up. Wayne says they will begin their quest to the tag titles this weekend on Collision. Nick teases their new name is Uncaged.

Jon Moxley is backstage with Marina Shafir and implies that he’s looking for his rematch against Hangman Page. Moxley says they know who the Hangman was that rode into All In, but by the end of the night, they are going to find out which one rode out.

We hear from Will Ospreay

Tony Schiavone is in the ring, and he brings out Will Ospreay. Ospreay says he wishes he were out there to wrestle in front of all those guys, as he loves Chicago. Ospreay says he surprised Tony Khan by showing up today and asked for some time to talk to the audience tonight.

Will Ospreay reveals he’s been having neck issues, and he’s been keeping it to himself when he shouldn’t have. Ospreay says he made promises to Swerve, Hangman, and the fans that they would retrieve the AEW World Championship, and they got the belt back.

Ospreay says after the attack by the Death Riders, he has two herniated discs in his spinal cord. He notes that it is treatable, and he should be back in time for Forbidden Door. Will sends love to Swerve and Hangman but says he’ll be looking for a rematch. Ospreay says as far as the Death Riders go, it will be an eye for an eye, and he’s looking for payback as soon as he gets back.

Swerve Strickland meets Ospreay on the stage, and the two men embrace.

We get a vingette from the new trio of Julia Hart, Skye Blue, and Thekla.

Willow Nightingale is backstage with Renee Paquette. Nightingale challenges Thekla to a match.

Bobby Lashley has had enough of MJF

The Hurt Syndicate is in their locker room with Renee Paquette. Paquette tries to ask about the situation with Adam Copeland, and MJF shows up pissy about them helping Cope. MVP tries to explain to MJF that it’s a business arrangement. MJF says they should be helping him get his world title back. Lashley grabs MJF by the throat and shoves him into the lockers and says they aren’t his lackeys and he’s tired of hearing I, I, I.

Bobby Lashley says he wants MJF out of The Hurt Syndicate. Lashley storms off, and Benjamin follows. MVP looks at MJF in disgust and leaves too leaving Friedman looking shocked.

Toni Storm vs. Billie Starkz

  • The finish of the match saw Toni Storm lock Billie Starkz in the TCM Chicken Wing to win the match via submission.

Winner: Toni Storm

After the match, Starkz lays Storm out with the AEW Women’s World Championship. Athena comes down and attacks Storm, too. Athena tries to cash in her contract, but Alex Windsor comes out and makes the save for Storm. Windsor will face Athena for the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship this weekend on Collision.

Grade: A-

This was great stuff. Billie Starkz really proved why she needs to be on AEW programming more often. It’s one thing to be used on Ring of Honor, but Starkz deserves to be on both. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of a lot more stuff for Starkz on Dynamite and Collision.

Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) vs. Hechicero (w/ Don Callis)

  • The finish of the match saw Lance Archer get involved to cause a disqualification.

Winner: Swerve Strickland (via disqualification)

After the match, Brody King and Bandido ran out to help even the odds. Kazuchika Okada attacked Strickland from behind with a steel chair. Strickland eventually got the upperhand and tried to put the chair on Okada’s neck but he got away before Swerve could do anything.

Grade: A-

This grade could have gone even higher if we had gotten a proper finish. But this is the story they want to tell with the Don Callis Family. I get it. I’m lowkey hopeful that Okada’s Unified Title reign is short-lived and Strickland wins that title at Forbidden Door.

Ricochet’s quest for gold is looking promising

Alicia Atout is backstage with Ricochet and Gates of Agony, who he now wants to be known just as GOA. Ricochet says he hopes people are paying attention to what they’ve been doing in recent weeks taking people out. Ricochet says they are on a quest for gold and they don’t care what you think about them. He says to either respect them or fear them.

MJF is here to talk some more….

MJF makes his way out to the ring and says he doesn’t need Bobby Lashley to get back his AEW World Championship. Friedman says Hangman is a coward and says he won’t execute the contract and will beat him fair and square. Before he can say anything else, he’s interrupted by Mark Briscoe.

Briscoe says much like his pickle, he’s gonna keep this short. Briscoe says he’s using self-control right now because all he wants to do is come to the ring and shove the microphone up MJF’s ass. Mark says MJF stole the win from him at All In. Briscoe challenges him to a match next week.

MJF says no and says if he was supposed to win at All In, he would have. Friedman calls Briscoe trash and says he thinks he sucks. MJF says the fans love him because he looks funny and they find that entertaining. MJF says Mark is a joke and implies that Jay Briscoe would have been worth his time. Friedman says no one will ever respect him as much as they respected Jay.

Mark charges to the ring, and MJF runs away. This leads right into tonight’s main event.

Mark Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli

  • The finish of the match saw Mark Briscoe catch Claudio Castagnoli in a small package to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Mark Briscoe

Grade: A-

After the match, the Death Riders hit the ring to attack Briscoe. Moxley runs his mouth about Hangman, and he makes his way to the ring with a microphone. Page says when Mox told him he didn’t want Texas Death, he knew that was a lie. Hangman says he’ll give Moxley a rematch next week, but since he’s the champion, they’ll play by his rules. Everyone is banned from ringside. The match is made official as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

I thought this was an excellent episode of Dynamite. We got a lot of great in-ring action with some promising story advancement as we head into Forbidden Door. I didn’t think we got their best effort last week, but this feels more like a return to form of what I expect from this show in 2025. Great stuff!

Grade: A
