Last week, the professional wrestling world lost one of, if not the biggest stars in the business, the Immortal Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career, the WWE Hall of Famer has competed in several iconic matches. One of the biggest matches in his career was back in 1997 in WCW against fellow Hall of Famer Lex Luger for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
Hogan was a part of the most dominant wrestling faction at the time, the New World Order. Luger ended up winning the match and the World Title. This was one of the first cracks in the armor of the “unbeatable” New World Order.
Recently, Lex Luger, during his latest episode of the Lex Expressed podcast, shared how he was chosen as the guy who dethroned Hulk Hogan. Luger mentioned that it was completely Hogan’s decision. Luger says that without Hogan, this moment would not have happened.
“I didn’t find out until I was almost ready to go to the ring. They asked Hulk, ‘Who do you want to do this with?’ … He [said], ‘100%, I want to do it with Lex.’ That was a huge props from one of the biggest stars ever in the business. That was a great feeling, to come back and have the opportunity to rise to that level in the company again,” Lex Luger said. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
