Becky Lynch is in the new Adam Sandler movie Happy Gilmore 2, but many details about her role have been kept under wraps.
Lynch plays a character named Flex in the new film, out now on Netflix. Flex is part of the team put together by Maxi Golf’s owner, Frank Manatee (Benny Safdie). Maxi Golf is a rival golf tour that introduces more “extreme” and over-the-top elements to its game compared to the more “traditional” golf featured in the original Happy Gilmore.
The Maxi Golf team plays against Happy’s Tour Championship team of golfers in the climax of the film. This is likely the subplot twist that Nikki Bella teased ahead of the film’s premiere.
How big is Becky Lynch’s role?
Becky Lynch has a supporting role in the film, and her Flex character provides more than just a cameo. Flex interacts with golf star Rory McIlroy during one scene and twists his nipples, which leads to an on-stage fight between the two teams. Lynch has a few lines of dialogue during the film, including the interaction with McIlroy and a surprise showdown with Shooter McGavin, the villain in the original film (played by Christopher McDonald).
Lynch can be seen with Nikki Bella in the trailer and final cut of the film, although Nikki’s speaking parts were ultimately cut from the movie. Nikki plays Flex’s caddy and can be seen standing with her in a few scenes in the film’s third act.
AEW star MJF, who plays Happy’s son, Gordie, in the film, praised Lynch for her work on the film. Lynch also shared her excitement about working on Happy Gilmore 2. “The Man” recently told Rick Ucchino of Sports Illustrated that it was a great atmosphere with “lots of improv” involved.
“I loved making it,” Becky Lynch said. “They just created such a great atmosphere. Such a fun atmosphere, such a playful atmosphere, and there was lots of improv involved. It felt like a little piece of magic. I’m excited to see if that comes across on screen. [I] had a good amount of freedom to kind of make it my own. There was obviously the character description. But beyond that, it was kind of up to each of us to design our own character exactly as we [workshopped] it.”
