Steve Austin and Travis Scott’s Original WWE WrestleMania 41 Plans Revealed

WWE originally had drastically different ideas of what WrestleMania 41 would look like for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Travis Scott.

WWE: Unreal premiered on Netflix today. The new docuseries gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of WWE creative. During the show, the cameras showed a whiteboard used for event planning. A proposed WrestleMania 41 match card was written on one of them.

The board featured the following matches, with Steve Austin penciled in as the special guest referee in the Breaker vs. Drew McIntyre match. In addition, Travis Scott was also slotted in as a manager role for Rey Mysterio in his match against Chad Gable.

The match card featured on WWE: Unreal featured a few other notable differences from the actual WrestleMania card, including CM Punk challenging Gunther for the world title instead of being in the triple threat with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. In addition, Jey Uso would have been in an Intercontinental Title Ladder Match instead of the World Title match with Gunther, and Bad Bunny vs. Dominik Mysterio was also on the board.

WWE WrestleMania 41 could have looked a bit different

The proposed match card from WWE: Unreal is as follows:

  • Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
  • World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
  • Women’s World Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Bianca Belair
  • Wyatt Sicks vs. Judgment Day
  • WWE Women’s Championship: Nia Jax (c) vs. Jade Cargill
  • Women’s Tag Team Championship: Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair vs. IYO SKY & Asuka
  • Bad Bunny vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Bron Breakker vs. Drew McIntyre, with Stone Cold Steve Austin as special referee
  • Rey Mysterio (with Travis Scott) vs. Chad Gable
  • Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Jey Uso vs. Damian Priest vs. Sheamus vs. Bronson Reed vs. Ludwig Kaiser vs. Sami Zayn
  • Ladder Match for the United States Championship: LA Knight vs. Jimmy Uso vs. Andrade vs. Solo Sikoa vs. Santos Escobar vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Travis Scott ultimately appeared in the main event of night two, interfering on behalf of John Cena and ‘The Final Boss,’ The Rock. Scott’s role was a controversial moment, as some fans feel like it took away from the match itself. Scott’s involvement with WWE seems to be over now, as he has not been on WWE TV since then. More recently, Drew McIntyre called him a “piece of shit” for ruining the main event, and Scott was also pulled from WWE 2K25.

As for Austin, he never actually appeared in an official capacity in a match. Austin did ultimately appear at WrestleMania 41. Austin came out ahead of the main event at WrestleMania 41 to announce the event’s attendance figures. Austin’s cameo was memorable for the wrong reasons, as he inadvertently crashed his ATV into the ringside barricade. Logan Paul also offered Austin $1 million to wear a PRIME costume on the show. However, Austin later explained his reasons for turning it down.
