What made Aleister Black decide to leave AEW to return to WWE earlier this year?
WWE Superstar Aleister Black recently spoke with Denise Salcedo. When asked when the moment was that he decided he was leaving AEW to return to WWE, Black said after speaking with Tony Khan and his agent, speaking with WWE, the latter was more appealing to him in terms of what he wanted to do going forward.
“I always keep all channels open at all times. I think it’s important for a professional to always like be aware of what their options are,” Aleister Black said. “Towards the end of my contract with AEW, I sat down with Tony Khan. I said, like, hey, this, that, and the third. What are you thinking? And he gave me his vision.
“And then [my agent] spoke to WWE, and WWE gave my agent their vision. I kind of put them together with what I wanted to do. And my heart laid more with going back to WWE, in terms of the things that I still wanted to do. And my wife was here.
“There was nothing wrong with what AEW wanted to do. It just was not what I envisioned that I still wanted to do with my remaining years in the wrestling business. And I felt that it aligned better with what I could do here. My last conversation with Tony was fine. It was very respectful. He thanked me, I thanked him, and we kind of went our separate ways.
“There was no hostility involved, or nasty conversations or anything. I think, and I said this to someone else, I think often the conversation surrounding these things become more volatile amongst people themselves than the actual conversation that initially happened. It was all fine. It was great.”
