This past Sunday night on Night 2 of SummerSlam, ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles. Styles paid homage to the late great Eddie Guerrero, and at the same time, he tried to play some mind games with Mysterio by coming out in a Low Rider and also wearing some Guerrero-inspired wrestling tights. But in the end, it was Dirty Dom who pulled off the win by taking a page of his uncle’s book.
Dominik Mysterio made an appearance at the SummerSlam recap show. During the episode, the current Intercontinental Champion reflected on his victory at the Premium Live Event. Mysterio mentioned that while Styles tried to push his buttons, ‘lying, cheating, and stealing’ is in his genes, and thus, he had the last laugh at SummerSlam.
“It feels absolutely amazing. And I’m going to tell you why. You ready? Because, like you said, everyone was saying AJ Styles this, AJ Styles that. One of the greatest to ever do it. Veteran in this business. He tried to push my buttons. Coming out with the Low Rider, the Eddie themed gear.
“But at the end of the day, I know the old man’s tricks. You know? I’m the… It’s in my genes. ‘Allegedly’ is what they say. At the end of the day, the greatest Intercontinental Champion, the greatest Mysterio of all time. And what was that? The title had changed 16 times, someone said. Or six times, something like that. Something crazy. All the time. Guess what? Dirty Dom retained at SummerSlam, so that does not change. It may change with some of the others, but not with Dirty Dom,” Dominik Mysterio said.
