Booker T didn’t bother to do any fact-checking ahead of commenting on Brock Lesnar‘s WWE return at SummerSlam.
On the latest episode of The Hall of Fame Podcast, NXT commentator Booker T spoke about Brock Lesnar’s shocking return at SummerSlam and how he “got his name cleared” ahead of his WWE comeback.
“I’m glad he’s got past this drama,” Booker T said. “You know what I mean? The hardest thing when you’re going through drama is just having to sit back and not being able to say anything. I’m glad he’s got his name cleared and now he’s able to get back in the ring and do what he does best. Brock Lesnar has had a hell of a Hall of Fame career. He’s definitely been one of the best that this business has ever seen.
“The thing is, he didn’t do it the traditional route like most wrestlers, as far as going out there and having so-called five-star matches. He just went out there and beat the hell out of guys where you say, ‘Man, that was five stars.’ [laughs] Brock coming back, having his name cleared, that’s huge. This world that we live in today, all it takes, boom. It’s one allegation or one accusation, and your life can be uprooted totally. I’m just glad to see him back in the ring doing what he does best.” [H/T: Fightful]
Here’s the thing…
Despite Booker T’s comments to the contrary, Lesnar has not had his name cleared of any wrongdoing as it pertains to being named in the civil lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE.
While it’s true that Lesnar hasn’t been charged with anything, he hasn’t been cleared either. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) has reported that Janel Grant’s legal team expects more things about Lesnar could emerge in discovery.
A spokesperson for Grant responded to Lesnar’s WWE return on Monday with the following statement:
“For far too long, abuse was allowed to thrive under WWE’s leadership. Instead of righting this wrong, WWE has done nothing to ensure those responsible are held accountable. This attempt to sweep misconduct under the rug will backfire. We look forward to the full set of facts, including those about Mr. Lesnar, coming out in a court of law where they belong, but, in the meantime, we refer you back to Janel Grant’s updated complaint, which outlines, in detail, the abuse she endured by McMahon and others while employed at WWE.”
