Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio recently opened up about his injuries.
‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio is one of the wrestlers who has been frequently featured on WWE Television. Throughout his run, he has suffered some injuries. Recently, Mysterio had been claiming that he was medically not cleared to compete and thus was dodging a title match against AJ Styles.
During his recent interview on the TWC Show, Mysterio revealed that he was legitimately injured and was not faking it. The Intercontinental Champion mentioned that he had dislocated two of his lower ribs a few weeks ago.
“My more serious ones, like, I have my ribs. A couple weeks ago, I dislocated my two lower ribs, and they were digging into my cartilage. So that was why I was actually, like, hurt. Everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt.” [H/T WrestlingNews.co]
Dominik Mysterio on his punctured lung
Dirty Dom also shared that in his first match as a heel, he wrestled the Rated R Superstar Edge (now goes by Cope in AEW). During the match, he had cracked a rib, and that punctured one of his lungs. He also recalled him not being able to breathe even after heading backstage. He was then taken to the hospital, and the doctors diagnosed that he has a collapsed lung.
“My first match as a bad guy, wrestled Edge, and I did a Frog Splash, and I cracked my rib and it punctured a lung. And then I finished the match, and then I just remember not being able to catch my breath.
“I told the doctor. I was like, ‘no, no, I’m good.’ Went back to the locker room. 10 minutes later, I was like, ‘I still can’t breathe.’ I was like, ‘this is like, this ain’t right. Sure enough, went to the hospital, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, you got a pneumothorax. You can’t fly home.’ I was like, ‘Oh, sick.’”
Dominik Mysterio also mentioned that the hardest part of being a professional wrestler is to live through with the pain.
“No matter what, you’re always gonna have aches and pains and the traveling and stuff. And it’s like people don’t really realize, like, the kind of toll that actually takes on your body.l Like your back calluses up because the ropes are so hard… your body’s got to get used to that, taking the bumps and going through all this other sh*t and then having to do it again the next day,” Dominik Mysterio said.
